St. Paul’s celebrated the 68th year of India’s independence with great zeal and enthusiasm. This event was presided over by Ms. Nafeesa Tanveer Ahmed, Director, Presidency Group of Institutions, Principal Ms. Susan Roy and Vice Principal Ms. Deepa Gopal. The National Tri colour flag was hoisted by Ms. Nafeesa. Patriotic songs and dances presented a glimpse of “THE YOUNG INDIA” saluting those who had sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

Hrithik Sridhar of Grade – 9 gave a mesmerizing Kathak performance.   Rohan Raveesh  of Grade – 7  played the song “Sandese Aate Hain” on the guitar. This was followed by the students of Grade -3 singing their prize winning patriotic song “Desh Hamara”.

The highlight of the day was a Kannada Skit presented by the students of Grade – 7 & 8 bringing out the sacrifice made by Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. It was indeed a splendid performance which aroused the spirit of patriotism in the audience.

Arunima Banerjee of grade – 9 presented a graceful Kathak dance on this occasion.

The academic achievers of the year 2013-14 were felicitated for their exemplary performance in the annual exam. Certificates of appreciation and books were awarded to the prize winners.  The winners of NSTSE – 2014 were also felicitated.

In her address, to the gathering Principal Ms. Susan Roy focused on the need to overcome social evils, exemplifying Gandhiji as a “tough minded optimist”.  She focused on the need to be strong in our patriotism, personal life and career. She further added that one should try to imbibe his noble qualities and learn to value time and treasure the precious moments and preserve the vast resources that we have. She defined patriotism as respect for elders, parents and motherland.

The programme ended with a soulful rendition of the patriotic song “Maa Tujhe Salaam” by the school choir.
